What the real watch does
Patek launched the 5930 in 2016 in white gold, about 39.5 mm wide and just under 13 mm thick, with a blue dial. A platinum version with a green dial came later. Under the dial sit two systems that share one movement: a world time with 24 cities and a 24 hour ring, plus a chronograph with a 30 minute counter at 6 o'clock. The chronograph runs on a column wheel with a vertical clutch, so the elapsed seconds hand starts clean and the counter hand jumps in one step instead of creeping forward.

The movement is the giveaway
Turn the watch over and look at the back. A real 5930 shows the chronograph and world time module with a gold rotor, Geneva stripes, circular graining, a Gyromax balance and the Patek Philippe Seal engraved on the bridge. Replicas cannot reproduce this. What you see instead is a mass produced automatic chronograph with an engraved rotor and a decorated plate on top of it. Sometimes the world time has no connection to the movement at all, and the city disc sits static under the dial or drifts with the rotor.
Two quick checks: the balance wheel should be finely finished and the engraving deep and crisp, not lasered and shallow. And the pushers should feel light and precise. A spongy or gritty pusher on a watch of this level is a bad sign.
The city disc and the 24 hour ring
On the real watch, pressing the corrector on the left flank of the case advances the hour hand and the city disc together in one hour steps, and the 24 hour ring stays aligned with it. Cities are spelled correctly and sit in the right sequence. On copies, the printing is soft, one or two city names are misspelled or out of order, and the corrector either does nothing or moves only the disc without the hour hand.
Case, hallmarks and weight
White gold is dense. A genuine 5930 head has a heft that a steel or plated case of the same size does not match. Look at the caseback for the Swiss precious metal hallmark and the Patek Philippe hallmark; on real watches both are struck cleanly. The case profile is another tell. Copies tend to make the bezel and lugs thicker and flatter than the original, and the crown sits too proud.
Dial, hands and printing
Markers are applied white gold with polished facets that catch light on one edge and drop to shadow on the other. Under a loupe, the printed signature has sharp edges and even paint. Copies show soft or doubled edges, thick paint, a flat dial finish and hands with rough bevels. Subdial rings on a replica are often printed rather than recessed.
Paperwork, price and the service reality
Serials should match between case and movement, and an Extract from the Archives from Patek confirms the reference, the metal and the production year. Price settles most arguments. The 5930 trades well above its original retail on the secondary market. If a seller is asking a small fraction of that, the question answers itself. In the US, importing or selling counterfeit watches is illegal, and Patek will not service a counterfeit. Some service centers will not hand it back. That is worth knowing before any money changes hands.
