What ref. 15500 is
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref. 15500ST is a 41 mm stainless steel watch. Audemars Piguet launched it in 2019 as the replacement for ref. 15400. It runs caliber 4302, an automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve. Case thickness is 10.4 mm. Water resistance is 50 m.
A replica ref. 15500 is a copy built by a third party. Audemars Piguet does not make replicas and does not license them. A replica is a counterfeit, not a factory variant.

Where replicas differ
Most replica ref. 15500 watches differ from the original in a few measurable places.
- Thickness. Many copies measure 11 mm or more. Caliber 4302 is thin. Copied movements are not.
- Movement. Some copies use a Miyota 9015 or a Seiko NH35 under a decorative plate. Beat rates run at 21,600 or 28,800 vph. Finish and rotor shape do not match caliber 4302.
- Dial. Tapisserie squares vary in depth and spacing. Date fonts differ. Print can look soft.
- Bezel screws. Slots sit at uneven angles. Heads can sit above the bezel surface.
- Bracelet. End links show gaps at the case. Clasp engraving is shallow.
Price
Replica ref. 15500 listings run from about $300 to $900. Genuine ref. 15500 sold at retail for about $25,700 at launch. Secondhand prices sit above retail. A low price is the main signal. No genuine Royal Oak 15500 sells near $1,000.
Legal status in the US
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import and to sell in the United States. US Customs and Border Protection can seize shipments and destroy them. 18 U.S.C. § 2320 covers trafficking in counterfeit goods. Buying a counterfeit for personal use is not a charge under that section, but the item can still be seized. There is no factory warranty and no service path. Audemars Piguet will not service or authenticate a counterfeit.
Buying checks
- Ask for the movement number and a photo of the caseback.
- Measure thickness. Over 10.6 mm points to a copy.
- Check date font and window shape against factory photos.
- Treat any seller who ships from outside the US without customs paperwork as a seizure risk.
