Ask the seller for the case diameter in millimeters. Measure the subdial spacing. A 30-minute counter at 6 o'clock is correct on the original. A 12-hour counter at 6 is not. Check the date window position and the font. Ask for photos of the caseback and the movement, not stock images. Water resistance on replicas is not tested to ISO 22810. Do not swim with one or wear it in a shower.
Limits
No replica carries IWC's warranty or service network. Resale value is near zero. Counterfeit watch sales are illegal in the US under 18 U.S.C. 2320, and many listings use the word homage to avoid that charge. Expect the strap to fail first, then the chronograph reset.
