What a replica Master Compressor is
A replica Master Compressor is a non-genuine copy of a watch from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor line. The line launched in 2002. The name comes from the compression key crown system, which JLC patented. Copies sold as replicas are built in China. They copy the case shape, dial layout, and strap. They do not use JLC movements. Trademark rights to the Master Compressor name and the compression key design belong to Jaeger-LeCoultre.
The compression key system
On the genuine watch, the crown sits inside a key. Turning the key to the lock position presses a gasket against the case. Water resistance comes from that pressure, not from screw threads. Reference ratings run from 100m to 1000m. Replicas copy the outside of the key. Most replica keys turn. They do not compress a gasket. Water resistance on a replica is untested. Do not swim with one.

- Asian 2824-2 clone. 25 jewels, 28,800 vph, date at 3. Low cost, easy to service.
- Miyota 9015. Japanese, 24 jewels, 28,800 vph. Thinner than the clone.
- Asian 7750 clone. Chronograph models only. Heavier, and the pushers feel softer.
The genuine Memovox runs calibre 975, an automatic alarm movement. No replica in this price class reproduces the alarm. An alarm subdial on a replica is decorative on most copies.
Checks before buying
Ask for photos at 5x magnification of the dial, caseback, and crown key. Check these points:
- Case width and lug width in millimeters.
- Crystal thickness and anti-reflective coating. A blue tint under light is a good sign.
- Dial print. Applied markers sit above the surface. Painted markers do not.
- Lume fill. Two colors on some references. Check for even coverage.
- Date window position. A misaligned window points to a moving date wheel.
- Strap and clasp. Leather or rubber, with a signed clasp.
Price range and limits
Replica Master Compressor watches sell for about $250 to $600. A higher price buys a better movement and better dial finish, not a genuine watch. Weight falls short of the steel original by 10 to 20 grams on most examples. Movement decoration is cosmetic. Expect no service history and no warranty beyond the seller. If a listing claims a Swiss ETA movement plus box and papers, treat the claim as unverified.
