Price bands

- Movement: quartz is the floor. A 2813 automatic sits low. A clone 2824 or 3135 sits mid. A claimed Swiss ETA sits at the top, and the part alone costs more than most $250 watches.
- Case steel: 316L is standard. 904L is harder to machine and adds $50 to $150.
- Crystal: mineral glass is cheap. Sapphire adds cost. Anti-reflective coating adds more.
- Plating: gold tone is measured in microns. PVD lasts longer than electroplating. Thickness drives price.
- Water resistance: gasket quality and crown threading. A tested case costs more than a claimed one.
Legal position in the US
Counterfeit watches are illegal to traffic in the United States. Under 18 U.S.C. 2320, trafficking in counterfeit goods carries up to 10 years in prison for a first offense, plus fines that reach $2,000,000 for an individual and $5,000,000 for a corporation.
Civil exposure is separate. Under 15 U.S.C. 1117(c), a trademark owner can collect statutory damages of $1,000 to $200,000 per counterfeit mark per type of goods, and up to $2,000,000 per mark if the use is willful. No proof of lost sales is required.
